Why and when are submental liposuction and neck tightening performed? The reason is one condition we all experience: gravity. Over the years, it leaves its mark on us too the skin relaxes and descends more and more. At a younger age, we generally do not have fat under the chin, while the cheekbones are fuller and the face has a beautiful shape. Unfortunately, this changes over time – the full cheekbones disappear, a double chin forms, and it also pulls down the lower third of the facial skin, the area where the face transitions toward the neck, in the mandibular region, the so-called “jaw line”.
Dr. Duško Maletić personally developed the method of laser-assisted submental liposuction with laser tightening of the skin of the lower third of the face and neck, and presented it in 2012 at a congress in Paris. This method is recommended for anyone who has a visible accumulation of fatty tissue in the submental area and whose skin in the lower third of the face and neck is noticeably relaxed, but not to the extent that a face lift is required. It is also recommended for patients who do not want to undergo a “major” procedure. A face lift still leaves several scars – this method does not, because it is not invasive to that degree.
Local tumescent anesthesia is sufficient for this operation. After administering it, the surgeon makes small openings 1.5 to 2 mm in diameter at the center of the chin and on each side near the ears, below the earlobe. These openings are needed to introduce laser fibers that pass beneath the submental skin and melt excess fatty tissue. The same laser is also used subcutaneously to tighten the skin in the lower facial region. The procedure is painless. The patient can leave Poliklinika Maletić the same day. A compression garment around the neck and face must be worn all day and night for the next four to five days.
The final result of this highly effective face-tightening method is visible three to six months after the procedure.
