Many branches have developed in aesthetic surgery – one of the newer and increasingly popular ones is the transplantation of hair into the beard area. Beard hair can also be transplanted from one part of the neck or face to another part of the face, or hair can be transplanted from other parts of the body.
As it is a widespread belief that the beard and moustache are a symbol of masculinity and striking parts of the face, they greatly contribute to the overall impression of a man’s face in the past, the beard and moustache were considered a symbol of power and wisdom. This is also the reason why an increasing number of men decide on a hair transplant into the beard area.
There are several reasons for a lack of hair growth on the beard: insufficient natural density, inflammation, scars after operations, earlier traumas, burns, scarring alopecia.
Before the transplant, it is necessary to rule out that the hair loss is caused by stress, inflammation or some organic disease. It is important, before the procedure, to hold a consultation with the patient and a detailed examination, and to mark the places where the hair will be transplanted. The rest of our team then carries out the preoperative preparation.
Two weeks before the procedure, you should avoid taking medications that promote bleeding, not consume alcohol for five days before the procedure, and avoid coffee and tea for at least two days before the transplant.
The procedure is not at all painful – all the patient feels is the administration of the local anaesthesia.
We most often take the follicular units from the occipital part of the scalp. If, however, the procedure is intended to conceal a scar on the beard or moustache, then it is best to take the follicles with hair from the other side of the neck or face, depending on the position of the scar. A particular feature of the FUE method is that the hairs, i.e. the follicular units, are taken individually, that is, one by one, with a special instrument no more than one millimetre in diameter. This procedure is necessary because any incision larger than a millimetre would leave visible scars in the donor region – thanks to this method, there are no scars. In the next step, the follicular units are implanted into the designated beard and moustache area using special microsurgical instruments.
On the same day, after the procedure is completed, the patient can head home our advice is not to do sports for about ten days, to avoid greater physical activity, and to spray, i.e. treat, the donor and recipient regions for seven days with a special spray. We also warn you not to be surprised, because it is the natural course of recovery that after about ten days the hairs fall out of the transplanted follicular units, and new, i.e. first, hairs can be expected in 14 to 32 weeks.
