The reason for circumcision (circumcisio) may be religious, medical (phimosis – the inability to retract the foreskin over the glans), hygienic, aesthetic, etc.
The procedure is usually performed under local anaesthesia and is completely painless. Pre-procedure tests are carried out to the extent required by the type of anaesthesia.
After the anaesthetic is applied, the excess foreskin is surgically removed, haemostasis is performed and the wound is sutured with resorbable material so that the sutures do not need to be removed. After the procedure, the patient goes home with written recommendations on wound care. Sexual intercourse and masturbation are prohibited until the wound has completely healed.
