Laser treatment of excessive sweating

Some people sweat excessively even without any particular reason. Besides external heat, physical work, nervousness and stress, sweating and even the smell of sweat can be influenced by many factors – food, drink, mood, medications, hormones, etc.

Excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis)

in the armpits, on the feet and palms, and more rarely on the face and nose. Iodine and starch test – where a brown stain breaks through the white starch powder, there are the most sweat glands.

Physiological hyperhidrosis

occurs with increased physical work, pregnancy, stress, obesity, the climacteric, and in a hot climate.

Symptomatic hyperhidrosis

occurs as a symptom of disease – e.g. malaria, TB, pneumonia. It can occur with hypoglycaemia or a cardiovascular event. It can also occur after taking certain medications – e.g. aspirin, corticosteroids, psychopharmaceuticals. There is also hyperhidrosis that occurs due to eating spicy food, as well as from the effects of alcohol and nicotine.

Genuine hyperhidrosis

is congenital, meaning there is a hereditary tendency to excessive sweating. The most common complication of hyperhidrosis is a fungal infection and the formation of warts (groin, hands, feet). Reduced sweating (hypohidrosis) – or even the cessation of sweating (anhidrosis) is a serious disorder that can even be life-threatening. Such a disorder can lead to heat stroke. The most severe cases are associated with burns (damage to the sweat glands), heat stroke and dehydration. Reduced sweating is also affected by some psychopharmaceuticals, and there is also the disease ectodermal dysplasia – a congenital condition without eccrine glands. It can also be associated with hormonal disorders in Addison’s disease, kidney and heart failure, and with damage to the nervous system. It can also be pronounced in skin diseases – e.g. psoriasis, scleroderma, pemphigus. It also appears as a symptom of increased fluid loss – dehydration. In older age this is a normal physiological phenomenon.
