Testicular prosthesis

In cases where one testis has not developed at all (agenesis) or has been surgically removed due to disease, trauma or a position that could not be surgically corrected and was therefore removed, the empty space in the scrotal sac can be filled by implanting a testicular prosthesis, in order to compensate for the cosmetic defect.
The procedure is performed under local anaesthesia, which is entirely sufficient, although it can also be carried out under general endotracheal anaesthesia. The scope of the pre-procedure work-up is determined on the basis of the type of anaesthesia under which the procedure is performed.
Through an incision in the lower part of the groin, a pocket for the prosthesis is prepared in the scrotal sac, and the prosthesis is positioned and fixed. The wound is closed in layers with resorbable material.
In this way, the problem of a missing testis in the scrotum as a cosmetic defect is permanently resolved, and the prostheses are very similar in size and consistency to the real structure of the testis.
After the procedure, the patient goes home for home care, with a recommendation to rest and take it easy over the next few days.
