Laser treatment for hair growth

Finally – a treatment that does not promise the “magical creation of new hair”, but instead stimulates follicles that still retain regenerative potential. Hair loss rarely happens overnight. Most often it begins gradually: the hair becomes thinner, weaker and sparser, while the scalp loses density and quality.

Poliklinika Maletić performs laser hair-growth stimulation as a medical procedure following a prior assessment of the scalp condition. Our clinic uses a non-ablative Er:YAG laser that acts in a targeted and controlled way on the scalp tissue with the aim of encouraging regenerative processes and beneficially influencing the hair-growth cycle.

How does laser hair-growth stimulation work?

Finally - a hair treatment with clearly defined and realistic therapy expectations

Medical laser stimulation of scalp tissue

Laser scalp therapy at Poliklinika Maletić is based on the controlled medical stimulation of scalp tissue using a non-ablative Er:YAG laser. Unlike weaker light or LED systems often used in cosmetic centres, the Er:YAG laser allows precise energy delivery into the surface layers of the skin, while heat is transferred gradually and in a controlled manner into the deeper structures of the scalp.

Key effects of the Er:YAG laser on the scalp

This mechanism of action enables key effects. The Er:YAG laser improves blood supply to the scalp, especially in the area of the dermal papilla — the microscopic structure that controls hair growth. Improved blood supply stimulates cellular metabolism. Accelerated metabolism stimulates tissue regeneration and has a beneficial effect on the hair-growth cycle, particularly encouraging the transition from the telogen to the anagen phase.

Realistic expectations

Laser scalp therapy is based on a medical approach with realistic expectations. The goal of laser therapy is not to create new follicles, but to activate and support those that still retain regenerative potential.

Key benefits of laser scalp therapy

Reducing increased hair loss

Laser stimulation strengthens weak follicles and reduces shedding in the telogen phase

Improving hair quality and thickness

Existing hair becomes stronger, denser and healthier-looking

Stimulating the anagen phase and awakening weakened follicles

Prolongs the active hair-growth phases and reactivates dormant follicular units

Increasing hair density over time

Results depend on the scalp condition, genetics and consistency of the protocol

Prevention of hair loss

A proactive therapy that slows further thinning

Laser scalp therapy as a medical procedure - not a cosmetic treatment

Finally – laser hair treatment is carried out in a medical context, not as a standard cosmetic-aesthetic treatment.

Even if you have already come across treatments called a “hair laser”, it is important to know that different technologies and levels of action may lie behind that name. Medical laser protocols differ from lower-power LED or LLLT treatments in the device, energy and method of application.

Poliklinika Maletić performs laser stimulation in a medical setting, with prior scalp diagnostics and as part of a systematic approach to treating hair loss. Our clinic distinguishes lower-power LLLT/LED treatments from the medical Er:YAG protocol, which is considerably more effective and is carried out according to clearly defined protocols.

Medical diagnostics

Trichoscopic examination before treatment

Er:YAG technology

A medical laser, not LED or LLLT

Defined protocols

An individually tailored approach

For whom is laser hair-growth treatment a good choice?

I notice my hair is getting thinner and thinner, but I don't want surgery.

— that is a sentence we hear every day. Laser scalp therapy is most often considered when the goal is not transplantation but prevention of hair loss, strengthening of existing hair and stimulation of growth.

Most common indications (depending on the findings)

Androgenetic alopecia

Male- and female-pattern hair thinning where follicles gradually weaken but still retain regenerative potential

Diffuse thinning

Hair loss when follicles still exist but weaken due to various causes

Increased hair loss

Due to stress or hormonal changes, with mandatory assessment and exclusion of other causes

Supportive therapy

Alongside other medical scalp treatments (e.g. PRP) or as preparation for a hair transplant

No invasive procedure
No surgical procedure
No recovery
No anaesthesia

When follicles are permanently lost in certain scalp regions, a hair transplant is then indicated — but in the early stages of thinning, laser stimulation can prevent further loss.

Er:YAG Laser vs. LLLT/LED Caps

In the public mind, a “hair laser” is often equated with LLLT devices (caps, combs, LED panels). Such treatments belong to a separate category with different devices and modes of operation.

The non-ablative Er:YAG laser is a medical laser used in a protocol of controlled stimulation of scalp tissue and is very safe.

Er:YAG Laser

  • Medical laser
  • Precise energy delivery
  • Medical setting
  • Individual protocols

LLLT / LED Caps

  • LED / LLLT devices
  • Low energy level
  • Home use
  • Variable quality

LLLT treatments may have a certain role for selected patients, but the protocols and quality of delivery vary considerably. The Er:YAG laser allows precise energy delivery into the surface layers of the skin, while heat is transferred gradually and in a controlled manner into the deeper structures of the scalp. This mechanism of action makes the treatment exceptionally safe and more effective than consumer LLLT devices, and it has a beneficial effect on the hair-growth cycle, particularly encouraging the transition from the telogen to the anagen phase.

The course of laser scalp treatment - What does the procedure look like?

Laser scalp therapy is a non-invasive procedure, with no surgery and no conventional recovery. The treatment lasts about 20 minutes and is performed with a special “comb”-shaped laser handpiece (X Restart) that is passed in a targeted manner over the scalp.

During the treatment you may feel warmth or mild tingling – this is a normal sensation that confirms the Er:YAG laser is precisely delivering energy into the tissue. The treatment requires no anaesthesia and the patient can return to activities the same day without restrictions.

1

Examination and preparation of the scalp

The scalp is examined and prepared for the treatment - no special preparation is required.

2

Setting the parameters

The laser device is adjusted according to the individual protocol and the scalp condition.

3

Laser scalp treatment

Treating the scalp with a comb-shaped laser handpiece (X Restart) - about 20 minutes.

4

Completion of the treatment

The treatment is complete - there are no special instructions afterwards.

5

Return to activities

The patient can return to everyday activities immediately after the treatment.

Recommended protocol

  • Total number of treatments: 6 treatments
  • Interval between treatments: 2 weeks
  • Treatment duration: About 20 minutes

Sensation

  • Sensation: Warmth / mild tingling
  • Anaesthesia: Not required
  • Return to activities: Same day

Protocol for maximum effect of laser therapy

Even if you have “already tried a laser” without a visible effect, the reasons for an unsatisfactory response to therapy are most often related to the following factors in the protocol:

Wrong indication

The treatment was not suitable for the specific scalp condition.

Wrong device

A low-power LLLT device instead of a medical Er:YAG laser.

Too short a treatment cycle

An insufficient number of treatments or inconsistency in the protocol.

The Poliklinika Maletić approach

Poliklinika Maletić places emphasis on diagnostics and scalp assessment above all - a trichoscopic examination, an individualised therapy plan (laser alone or in combination with other therapies), the use of a medical device, an adequate number of treatments, consistency in the protocol and tracking over time with photographs and follow-up examinations.

Laser treatment, PRP or hair transplant?

Not sure which method is right for you? That is completely normal. Each method has its own goal:

Laser scalp therapy

The goal is to stimulate and strengthen existing follicles, improve hair quality and reduce shedding (when follicles still exist).

  • Strengthening existing hair
  • Reducing increased shedding
  • Stimulation of follicles with potential

PRP treatment

The goal is regenerative support for the follicles through autologous plasma obtained from the patient's own blood (also when potential exists).

  • Regeneration of follicles with potential
  • Autologous plasma from your own blood
  • Support for weakened follicles

Hair transplant

The goal is to replace permanently lost hair by relocating follicles.

  • Restoring permanently lost hair
  • Relocating follicles from the donor area
  • A permanent solution for bald regions

When do we combine?

If there is hair thinning and the presence of weakened follicles on the scalp, we achieve the best results with a combination of treatments. In practice, the best effect is often achieved when the methods are combined in line with the findings — because one method strengthens existing follicles, while the other replaces what has been lost.

Criteria for choosing a clinic for laser hair treatment

If you are considering PRP hair treatment, it is important to pay attention to several key factors when choosing a clinic.

1

Is a scalp examination performed before recommending the treatment?

A physician experienced in treating hair loss must perform an examination and, depending on the scalp condition, recommend the most effective therapy.

2

Which device do they use and is the protocol clearly explained?

It is important that high-quality, proven devices are used and that it is clear whether it is a medical laser protocol or another form of light therapy, depending on the indication.

3

Can the clinic also offer other methods?

Very often the best effects are achieved with a combination of treatments (laser + PRP / transplant)

4

Do they track the result objectively?

Photographs and trichoscopy make it possible to track progress and decide on continuing or changing the treatment.

6

International recognition

International professional recognition guarantees that laser hair treatment is also carried out according to the highest medical standards. Continuous education and membership in relevant professional associations ensure the correct indication, safe application and optimal results of laser scalp treatment.

Poliklinika Maletić meets all the criteria:
