Breast Reduction

Breast reduction – a solution for health and aesthetics

Large (hypertrophic) breasts are an aesthetic and physical drawback. Larger breasts are often also sagging. Such a finding indicates a stooped posture and back pain. If this condition lasts for quite a long time, it can lead to deformation of the spine and the chest.

Men can also have enlarged breasts, which is called gynaecomastia.

If examinations determine a larger amount of fatty tissue, liposuction can be performed as a separate procedure, after which a compression bra is worn. After 2-3 months it can be seen how much the skin has retracted and whether additional skin reduction is needed.

If the breasts also have a large amount of glandular tissue, a classic breast reduction and lift operation – reduction mammoplasty – is usually performed.

The procedure is performed under general anaesthesia and requires complete pre-operative tests. The operation itself lasts 2-3 hours. This is followed by recovery from the anaesthesia over 6-8 hours and wearing a special bra for several weeks.

Scars are visible around the areola, towards the chest, and depending on the complexity of the operation itself, also in the inframammary fold (an inverted letter T).

If the male breasts are too large in relation to the size of the chest, liposuction is usually sufficient.

Only in cases of an enlarged gland is a classic operation to remove it performed. The incision is usually hidden right at the transition of the nipple into the surrounding skin.
