Tony Cetinski entrusted his hair transplantation
to Poliklinika Maleti??
Singer Tony Cetinski chose Poliklinika Maleti?? for his hair transplantation, entrusting himself to the expertise of Dr. Ana Maleti?? and the many years of experience of our team. By speaking publicly about this procedure, Tony helped make hair transplantation a more accepted topic and end the taboo around it.
"I am very glad that Tony placed his trust in me and our Polyclinic. By speaking publicly about this procedure, he made hair transplantation even more popular and helped ensure it is no longer a taboo subject."
The best guarantee of success is the potential of as many as 4 methods.
Every type of alopecia is different. FUE delivers excellent results in standard cases ??? but with the DHI method we achieve greater density without pre-cutting channels, Sapphire FUE reduces scarring in the donor area, while the STRIP?? method remains optimal for patients who need the maximum number of grafts in a single procedure.??
Dr. Ana Maleti?? is the only surgeon in Croatia who performs all four?? methods ??? and the only one with ABHRS Diplomate certification. This means that we choose the method?? according to your case, not according to what the clinic happens to offer.
Your genetics are not the end - but the starting point
Androgenetic alopecia disrupts the growth of hair follicles in the frontal and parietal regions of the scalp, while the follicles at the back of the head remain permanently resistant. Hair transplantation at Poliklinika Maleti?? transplants precisely these resistant follicular units into bald and balding zones – and there they grow forever.
Why do patients choose Poliklinika Maleti?? for hair transplantation?
Poliklinika Maleti?? brings internationally certified expertise and three decades of experience in follicular unit transplantation.

Hair transplantation at Poliklinika Maleti?? is built on a tradition three decades long. Since 1996, when Dr. Du??an Maleti?? gained his first knowledge from leading American experts, the Polyclinic has continuously followed global trends and technological innovations in the field of hair restoration and is the leading centre in this part of Europe. Dr. Ana Maleti?? has been training in the field of hair transplantation??since 2012.
An individual approach - because there is no universal method
Poliklinika Maleti?? performs all hair transplantation techniques: FUE, DHI, Sapphire and STRIP. We approach each patient individually, choosing the optimal technique according to the specific characteristics of the scalp, the degree of hair loss and personal preferences.
Top-quality equipment and natural hair transplantation results
We use exclusively top-quality instruments and devices – in diagnostics, trichoscopic examination of the scalp and the hair transplantation procedure itself. During the work, loupes are used so that the procedure is performed as precisely as possible, and the results we achieve look completely natural.
Hair transplantation methods - which is the right one for you?
There is no single “best” hair transplantation technique – there is the best technique for your scalp. Poliklinika Maleti?? performs all methods and combinations of techniques to achieve maximum density.
FUE hair transplantation
Follicular Unit Extraction ??? minimally invasive, maximally preciseThe FUE method of hair transplantation is a minimally invasive procedure in which follicular units are extracted from the donor region one by one, using instruments less than one millimetre in diameter. Most often the follicular units are taken from the back of the scalp and the area above the ears, but hairs from other parts of the body can also be used. Unlike the STRIP method, FUE does not leave a visible linear scar.
After extraction, the follicular units are carefully checked, counted and stored in a nutrient solution at low temperature ??? so that they survive the period while outside the body. The follicles are then implanted into the recipient regions of the scalp (the areas where hair is missing). During the work, loupes are used so that the procedure is performed as precisely as possible.
DHI hair transplantation
Direct Hair Implantation ??? implantation using implantersThe DHI method of hair transplantation is a subtype of the FUE method in which the follicular units are implanted into the recipient regions of the scalp using an implanter. The implanter is an instrument that looks like a pen with a narrow channel into which a follicle is inserted, and after pressing the tip of the implanter, the follicle is implanted into the scalp.
??
Sapphire hair transplantation
Incisions with sapphire bladesThe Sapphire method of hair transplantation is a subtype of the FUE method in which the sites for implanting follicles in the recipient region of the scalp are made with sapphire blades
??
STRIP (FUT) hair transplantation
Follicular Unit Transplantation ??? the maximum number of folliclesIn the STRIP or FUT method of hair transplantation, a section of the scalp is excised from the occipital region and laterally towards the ears. The length and width of the excised section of scalp (the strip) depends on the hair density in the donor region and on how many follicular units need to be transplanted. The limiting factor is the elasticity of the skin.
To make the scar in the donor region as inconspicuous as possible, we apply a special suturing technique – the trichophytic scar (trichophytic closure) – in which hair grows through the scar, making it considerably less visible.
After a section of scalp is excised, that section is cut under a microscope into smaller pieces, and in this way we obtain individual follicles that are implanted in the same way as in the FUE method. The procedure is performed under local anaesthesia and is not painful. Seven to ten days after the procedure the stitches are removed; if the wound is closed with a self-dissolving suture, stitch removal is not necessary.
Combination of FUE and STRIP methods: In cases of advanced baldness, both methods can be combined in the same procedure ??? a section of scalp is excised, the wound is sutured, and above and below the incision individual follicular units are extracted using the FUE method for the maximum number of follicles.
Dr. Ana Maleti??'s own hair transplantation method
An internationally recognised technique presented at the ISHRS congress in 2025.Dr. Ana Maleti?? devised her own hair transplantation technique, which she presented in 2025 at the annual congress of the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery (ISHRS) ??? the most important global gathering of leading hair transplantation physicians.
As a lecturer and long-standing member of the ISHRS, Dr. Maleti?? presented her method before an international professional audience, through which her work received international professional recognition within the most relevant global organisation for hair transplantation.
How do we achieve a natural look after hair transplantation?
At Poliklinika Maleti?? we achieve a natural look from hair transplantation thanks, among other things, to the following facts:
We design the hairline individually
The hairline is adapted to the shape of the face, the Norwood stage of alopecia and the density of the donor region – we never use the same ???template??? for all patients.
We precisely determine the angle and direction of follicle implantation
We make incisions into which the follicles will be implanted, and consequently we implant the follicles into the recipient regions of the scalp paying attention to the angle and direction of hair growth, which is individual and different in each region of the scalp and very often varies from patient to patient. We follow the natural direction of hair growth in each region of the scalp.
??
??
Strategic distribution of follicular units
We implant single-hair follicular units into the hairline for a softer, more natural look. We implant two-hair, three-hair and multi-hair follicular units into the central and crown regions of the scalp for maximum density.
Microsurgical loupes with 5x magnification
During the work we use loupes so that the procedure is performed as precisely as possible and damage to the follicles and surrounding scalp tissue is avoided.
RESULT:
by applying these principles, transplanted hair is achieved that grows naturally

Frequently asked questions about hair transplantation
Answers to the questions patients most often ask before deciding on follicular unit transplantation at Poliklinika Maleti??.
Yes - hair transplantation gives permanent results when performed by an expert physician and their team. It is essential that the follicular units are extracted from the safe region of the scalp - the one containing follicles that are not lost due to androgenetic alopecia. Such follicles, transplanted into regions where hair is missing, will grow forever.
The duration of the procedure depends on the number of follicular units that need to be transplanted and on whether the scalp is shaved before the procedure. The more follicular units are transplanted, the longer the procedure lasts. If the entire scalp is shaved before the transplantation, the procedure itself is shorter. The average duration of a hair transplantation procedure is 3-6 hours.
Hair transplantation is most often performed under local anaesthesia. The local anaesthetic is injected into the scalp, after which the scalp goes numb and the procedure becomes completely painless. During the injection we use a device that vibrates and massages the region - making the procedure additionally more comfortable. If needed, the procedure can be performed under local anaesthesia with sedation, so the patient is additionally relaxed or sleeps during the procedure.
The hair from the transplanted follicular units usually falls out about ten days after the transplantation, and new hair begins to grow again 15-16 weeks after the procedure. The final, complete result of the hair transplantation is visible 6-12 months after the procedure. With us it very often happens - thanks to our exceptionally precise and refined technique - that the hairs from the transplanted follicles do not fall out but continue to grow immediately.
The number of follicular units is determined entirely individually for each patient. We take into account how many follicular units need to be transplanted to achieve satisfactory density in the thinning or bald regions - but also how many follicular units can be extracted from the donor region without visible thinning.
Shaving before hair transplantation is not necessary. Poliklinika Maleti?? offers several options depending on the patient's preferences:
- Shaving the entire scalp to 2 mm - both the donor and recipient regions are shaved
- Shaving only the donor region - the occipital region is shaved, the recipient region remains untouched
- No shaving of the scalp - neither the donor nor the recipient region is shaved
We recommend that patients do not shave before arriving - we will do the shaving depending on the agreement.
After the procedure the patient receives detailed written instructions for scalp care. The patient can leave Poliklinika Maleti?? immediately after the procedure - without any bandage on the scalp. For a few days after the procedure, redness and small scabs may be visible. All our patients receive an on-call telephone number and can contact us at any time.
Contraindications for hair transplantation can be local (related to the scalp) or systemic (related to the patient's health condition).
Local contraindications: active autoimmune scalp diseases, active scarring alopecias, active alopecia areata, inflammatory scalp diseases, active scalp skin infections, diffuse alopecia, an insufficient donor region.
Systemic contraindications: severe heart and blood vessel diseases, uncontrolled diabetes, uncontrolled hypertension, certain psychiatric disorders, uncontrolled blood clotting disorders, uncontrolled autoimmune diseases, the use of certain medications, unrealistic expectations.
A follicular unit is a cluster of hairs that grow together. A single follicular unit can contain from 1 to 5 hairs, sometimes more. On average, a single follicular unit contains 2.5 hairs. It is important to distinguish follicles from individual hairs ??? when a surgeon says "we transplanted 2000 follicular units", that means approximately 5000 individual hairs.
In women it is most often not a matter of complete hair loss in certain regions, but of greater or lesser thinning that most often affects the front region of the scalp - so most often it is a matter of scalp densification. Women usually want their hairstyle disturbed as little as possible during the preparation and the procedure itself, so they most often choose hair transplantation without shaving the recipient region.
The number of follicular units is determined individually for each patient, bearing in mind how large the recipient region is, but also what the capacity of the donor region of the scalp is. The shape and position of the hairline must be adapted to the individual entirely personally. When implanting the follicles, it is extremely important to pay attention to the angle and direction of follicle implantation. It is also very important to consider where we will implant single-hair follicular units and where those with more hairs. All of the above is extremely important in achieving a natural look.
The price of hair transplantation depends on:
- The number of follicles to be transplanted
- Shaving before the procedure - if the patient does not want certain regions or the scalp shaved at all, the procedure is more expensive
- The regions from which the follicles are taken - if the follicles are transplanted from the body (body hair), the procedure is more expensive than from the scalp
How to prepare for hair transplantation?
Proper preparation ensures optimal conditions for the survival of the transplanted follicular units and faster recovery after the procedure.
14 days before the procedure
- Stop taking acetylsalicylic acid (Andol, Aspirin, Cardiopirin) ??? before stopping use, be sure to consult your physician
- Stop taking Vitamin E
- Stop using Minoxidil
- Inform your physician about all medications you take
5 days before the procedure
- Avoid alcohol
2 days before the procedure
- Reduce your intake of coffee and tea
Day
of the procedure
- The Polyclinic performs an ECG, blood pressure measurement, and assessment of health condition
- Do not shave your scalp before arriving ??? we will perform the shaving according to the agreed technique
- Come in comfortable clothing (a button-up shirt, not a t-shirt)
How to choose a surgeon for hair transplantation?
Today we are faced with an ever-growing number of polyclinics offering hair transplantation. The offer is truly large and varied – it is not easy to choose the right clinic and an experienced physician. That is why, before choosing, it is important to know which facts are decisive. A bad surgeon can permanently destroy the donor region of the scalp and produce an unnatural hair transplantation result.
The physician's experience ??? a minimum of 10,000 hours
For someone to be considered an expert, they must invest a minimum of 10,000+ hours in a particular field. For a physician working 200 days a year, 8 hours a day, that means 6+ years of exclusive work on hair transplantations. Do not hesitate to ask how many transplantations they have performed.
The difference between follicles and hairs
Pay attention to whether your physician speaks about transplanting follicles or individual hairs – it is not the same. Each follicle contains on average 2.5 hairs. If a surgeon promises “5000 hairs”, that is only 2000 follicular units.
Checking the number and quality of follicles
Always ask to see your follicles after extraction – and to be able to count them yourself. The follicles should be arranged on special trays, a defined number on each tray. Besides the number, also check the quality: does the number of hairs at the top of the follicle match the number of roots at the bottom? Are any of the individual hairs on the follicle cut? If, for example, we have a follicle with 3 hairs, and 2 of them were damaged during extraction, that means 66.6% of that follicle is damaged and it probably will not grow either in the donor or in the recipient region.
Results in before-and-after photos
Always look at the physician’s results – photos of patients before and after hair transplantation. Pay attention to the naturalness of the hairline and the density of the transplanted hair.??
Speed and precision of performing the procedure
The follicular units must be outside the body for as short a time as possible. The surgeon must work quickly, but precisely. Transplanting 2000 follicular units using the FUE method must not take 10 hours – that means the follicles are dying while waiting for implantation.
.
The medical team involved
Hair transplantation is not a “one man show” – top-quality work requires an excellent team. Team members must undergo training, be well-coordinated, and have experience specifically in this field. Ask how many team members take part.
Equipment of the clinic and operating theatre
Hair transplantation must be performed in a medical facility equipped for such a procedure – trichoscope, ECG, pulse oximeter, defibrillator, thermometer, an oxygen ???supply???, sterilised instruments, the necessary medications, a room for patient preparation and rest, and an operating theatre. Check whether the clinic has a licence for surgical procedures.
??
An individual approach and the offer of all techniques
There is no single “right” technique that suits everyone – not even FUE is ideal for everybody. A good expert knows the FUE, STRIP, DHI and Sapphire methods and knows when to combine techniques for an optimal result.
The physician's specialisation
Hair transplantation is a surgical procedure – it is important that the operation is performed by a surgeon!
ISHRS membership ??? an international association
