Liposuction is a method that permanently removes subcutaneous fat tissue using negative pressure – aspiration with special cannulas.
Over the last 30-40 years, the technology has advanced significantly. Today, the fat tissue is first prepared by injecting a special fluid to break it down (hydroliposuction – Wet, unlike the former dry technique – Dry), then treated with a laser (Laser Assisted Lipoplasty – LAL) to create lipolysis (fat melting) and achieve better skin tightening after the procedure (Skin Tightening), while the extraction itself is performed with thin vibrating cannulas (POWER ASSISTED LIPOPLASTY – PAL), which increases efficiency and shortens the duration of the procedure.

Depending on the size of the area (or multiple areas), the procedure can be performed under so-called local tumescent anesthesia. In this technique, a solution containing a diluted fast-acting anesthetic and another anesthetic with a prolonged effect is injected into the fat tissue (with syringes or a special pump), together with medication that narrows the blood vessels and reduces bleeding.
If larger accumulations of fat tissue or several areas are being treated, the procedure is performed under spinal anesthesia or general anesthesia.
The operation is preceded by all necessary examinations for the selected type of anesthesia. After the procedure, the patient remains at the Poliklinika until recovery from anesthesia. A special compression garment must be worn 24 hours a day for several weeks.
The final result is usually visible after 3-4 months, depending on the effect of the laser. By that time, the fibrous healing processes in the tissue are complete and it becomes clear how much the skin has retracted to the new volume.
Any irregularities can be corrected using the liposhifting method. In this procedure, a special serrated probe is inserted into the tissue and fat tissue is taken from an area where it is present in excess. Nothing is removed from the tissue; instead, a compression garment is applied, allowing the free fat particles to move under compression toward the depressions and irregularities (Dr. Zya Sylan, Dr. Blugerman).
Sometimes, for example in male patients, another procedure may be more effective, such as surgery when breast reduction is needed due to enlarged male breasts (gynecomastia).
